The weather here has been very humid and Mason is proving to be a real outdoors baby (well now 13 months not so much a baby). So i set him up with a cup of water and a paintbrush and watched him figure out how to paint with water on the pavers.
Sometimes its the simple things that entertain for hours......
What do you get when you mix glow water with cornflour? GOOOOOThis recipe was just cornflour with cold glow water stirred until thickened. This was the start of making playdough before i microwaved it but Tara saw that goo and wanted to explore it so we added some spiders and other creepy crawlies and she had a blast. It is sticky, gooey and gets everywhere but the ingredients are all washable, non toxic and so much fun. Tara made some hand prints on our pavers outside which look super creepy at night!
How far can you step?
We have been measuring anything and everything lately and while we were out playing one day Tara decided to step as far as she could and mark it with chalk then measure it.
We both had a go and spoke about how many "bricks" in length our steps were.
We have plenty of bird life around our area and when we saw a fun way to make bird feeders we thought we should give it a go.Use a pipe cleaner and thread on some Cheerios's. Threading is a great activity for toddlers as it practices patience, completing a task and the wonderful fine motor skills for writing. Make sure to leave room for a loop or hook so you can hang them
We hung a few from a tree outside
And shared two with our pet "Pete" who nibbled on it all afternoon
After our Dino land adventure we used the clean up as a fun way to discover the art of "Fossicking"Sifting through a tub of sand, water and pebbles, Tara separated the heavier pebbles from the soft sand with a strainer, shaking side to side, round and around just like in the gold rush.
We explored our local forest for a springtime "Fairies and Elves" bushwalk and here is my little Fairy ready for a day that didn't turn out as planned!
Had a fantastic time investigating the wood theme table
And our bush walk began...This was just before that little hand got bitten by the biggest bull ant i have ever seen, poor little poppet wasn't happy
This stunning spring weather has kept us outside most days and what better than exploring in a sensory tub full of nature. I started off with a beach type area with sand, pebbles and water filled with her stretchy frogs and lizards and let her add whatever she wanted
The tub quickly turned into a "muddy mud puddle" filled with sticks, leaves, cuttlefish and shells but was enjoyed for hours!
With spring here we have made the most of it by getting into the sunshine. We decided to this year add a herb garden to our vegetable patch so i labeled the pots and Tara matched the packet of herbs to their pots. Great for letter and word recognition.
Its amazing how the outdoors can bring out so many more learning opportunities and the simple things like filling up pots can turn into lessons about "empty" "half" and "full"
These spray bottles were filled with 1/2 water 1/2 poster paint to make a lovely runny consistency perfect for spraying from bottles. Great for little hand muscles and so much fun!
Great to store for gift wrapping paper. For older children using a white wax candle you can write a secret message or picture before starting and as you spray your paper the hidden message will appear
